Now That The LG Administrators Have Been Dissolved, Will Posterity Judge Them Well?
William James was right when he posits that "the great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it", of course the true mark of ideal leader is to utilize every given opportunity to do good that will be of benefit to the masses.
Whatever has a beginning they say definitely has an end. The reign of the twenty one Local Government Administrators in Kogi State finally came to an end yesterday after four years, with so much memories to remember them for; the good, the bad and the ugly.
Until they were dissolved, many of them never imagined their lives outside office, they were like demigod to their people, so much terror and so much bad memories in a bid to spread their tentacles and be feared by all.
While I read through many write-ups on the cyberspace recounting the reigns of the Administrators. I am not concerned about the time the political sojourn of the former Administrators ended, I am more concerned about the fact that many of them wasted the opportunities given to them to contribute to societal building, I am more concerned that many of them wasted the opportunity to leave something good behind for posterity to reckon with.
This however has proven the fact that position of authority is just for a specific period of time and we will surely be remembered for what we do with the trust.
I am much concerned that man is yet to come to term that power is what one gets and loses, I am much pained that man is yet to come to term with the ephemeral nature of power.
I've read about stories of men of valour who once stood shoulder to shoulder with their people and fought for their freedom only to fall to the trap of power when they held sway and be the worst that ever happened to the people they once fought for, yet man has refused to learn from their end.
While the abysmal and shameful performances of some of the Administrators cannot be upturned, those who will find their ways back to the corridor of power must use these days they are spending outside power to come to terms with the reality of life, the deception and the evil of power.
The fierce looking officials and nonofficial securities are gone, it's between them and the people they've been intimidating.
I am not concerned that some of them will find their ways back as elected chairmen of their respective local government, but I am much concerned if they will learn to leave good legacy the posterity will gauge them with, I am much concerned if they will focus on good governance through which they will build a reputation for themselves than fighting hard to subdue everybody in their local government and assume the position of demigod.
I am much concerned!
