MURIC, CAN In War of Words Over Identity of Suicide-bomber, Nathaniel Samuel
Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, an Islamic group and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Monday engaged in war of words over the true identity of the suicide bomber, Nathanial Samuel, arrested on Sunday in Living Faith Church, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna state.
Recall that the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, of Kaduna State Command, gave the identity of the suspect as Nathaniel Samuel, disclosing that Samuel was apprehended inside Living Faith Church in Sabon Tasha, Chukun Local Government Area of the state on Sunday with a bag of items containing a suspected Improvised Explosive Devices, IED.
The Islamic group while reacting to the development in a statement issued by the Executive Director of the Islamic group, Ishaq Akintola, MURIC described the arrest on the day of CAN's prayer walk as divine; adding that the arrest of Samuel as suicide-bomber in Kaduna church has given the impression that the Can's rally was a ruse.
MURIC further added that the arrest of Samuel on a day of Christian prayer walk is the outcome of their prayer to Allah to expose all those who are behind bombing of churches in Nigeria.
According to MURIC, they were not surprised the suspect was a Christian, explaining that they have said it on several occasions that there was Christian version of Boko Haram.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), however, responded through the Kaduna State CAN chairman, John Hayab, said the suspect was a Muslim.
Hayab claimed that the church members who arrested the suspect reported before he was handed over to police said the suspect identified himself as Mohammed Sani.
CAN accused the police of failing to do thorough background check on the suspect before announcing his identify as Nathaniel Samuel.
