Why Gov Makinde May Be the Answer To Nigeria's Problem
Without mincing words, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state may be the answer to the leadership challenges facing Nigeria.
Gov Seyi Makinde
The governor who has failed not to do the right thing since he assumed office on 29 May 2019 has given Nigerians much to talk about as many Nigerians continued to ask if Makinde is actually a Nigeria breed.
Within the few space of time, the governor has achieved amongst others; procured about 100 surveillance vehicles worth N800million to strengthen securities in the state, the governor also canceled all levies paid in public schools in the state and revived the free education of late, Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the blessed memory.
Makinde, also approved over N400 million to be used for provision of exercise books for public schools, introduced regular payment of salariea on or before 25th of every month, and gave pensioners more reasons to smile and live again.
When there was a move to ban street hawking in the state, Makinde went a different way, he emphatically stated that he had once involved in the street hawing before and knew that many people depend it, adding that his government must prepare alternative option for them before banning it.
Makinde also paid 1.4bn as gratuity to about 1000 teacher who retired between 2010 and 2012, provided law school students with bursary to tune of N500,000, a policy that was stopped as far back as 2012.
On Friday, February 7, the Oyo State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress had no choice than to roll drum and appreciate Makinde for signing the N30,000 minimum wage for the state workers.
These are few out of many of his achievement in less than a year.
If you say Makinde is the answer to Nigeria's leadership problem you are right, our prayer is just to see him succeed and have him as our President someday.
