Kogi Govt Speaks On Rumours of School Reopening
Kogi State government has spoken on the rumours making the round on social media that the state government has directed schools to reopen on Monday June 15, 2020.
Several reports on social media had claimed that the state Executive Chairman, Kogi State, Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission, STETSCOM, Mrs. Cecilia Cook directed school principals and the teachers to resume on Monday.
While reacting, the STETSCOM Executive Chairman dispelled the rumour, saying it is the work of mischief makers.
The STETSCOM Executive Chairman, Mrs. Cook who spoked through the Information Officer of the Commission, Mr. Onighaye Alfred Alabi pointed out that the Commission does not have the power to direct reopening of schools in Kogi State as claimed on social media.
According to him, it is not withing the mandate of the commission to direct reopening of schools in Kogi State, adding that it is only the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology who has the power to direct reopening of schools in the state.
The Information Officer of the Commission explained that schools will resume soon but the STETSCOM Chairman has not directed the reopening of schools as acclaimed.
He called on teachers, Principals and the general public to disregard the information, stressing that it is not true and does not come from the commission.
Recall that Governor Yahaya Bello had earlier lifted ban on religious gatherings on April 9, businesses and government workers have since resumed.
Bello had continued to maintained that Kogi State is free from Covid-19 and rejected the three cases recorded for the state by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.
