Why Fayose Will Return As 'Political godfather' of Ekiti State In 2022

The 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State may have come and gone but the power-play that removed former Governor of the state, Peter Ayodele Fayose's influence in the state is still fresh in the minds of Nigerians especially the people of Ekiti State.

With federal might and the machineries of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Fayose and his deputy who was his anointed PDP governorship candidate in the governorship election, Kolapo Olusola Eleka, were pushed from the corridors of power despite the noise and brag by Fayose prior to the election.

'Peter the Rock' as Fayose proudly refer to himself, had already assumed the position of political godfather of the state and was believed by some Nigerians that he had perfected his plans to build his own political dynasty before his reign was short-lived by APC governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi, who went to the state with all the available federal might to take-over the governance of Ekiti State.

Many people believed that Fayose was his own enemy, and dug his own grave due to his constant outbursts and vituperations on President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC led government.

Fayose and his candidate were not only defeated, they were disgraced out of office. Fayose alleged he was beaten by APC supporters on the day of election, barred from moving within the state and to the surprise of millions of Nigerians, Fayose cried profusely on nation TV complaining he was in severe pain.

Despite all these, all is not over for 'Peter the Rock' in Ekiti state, Fayose's records are evergreen and will make him to bounce back again.

Why Fayose May Return As 'Political godfather' of Ekiti State

Available indicators have shown that Fayose still enjoys much popularity and acceptance in Ekiti state which will help him to bounce back as the political godfather of Ekiti State in 2022.

This reason for this is not farfetched, Fayose's second term as the government of Ekiti state has been adjudged to be the most closest to the people in the history of the state.

During his reign in Ekiti State,  Fayose forgot the fact that he was an executive Governor, he brought himself to the level of ordinary people in the state, going to Okada park, motor park without securities and associated with people of the state freely.

This singular action, earned Fayose the ultimate support of  ordinary people who formed the larger percentage of the state's population and were ready to work for him and defend him at all cost.

Another factor that will also aid the coming back of Fayose in 2022 is the fact that the current Governor of the State, Kayode Fayemi only has one tenure of four years to spend which will end in 2022 as a former Governor of the state.

The going of Fayemi will be a source of Fayose gaining back his status as the political godfather of the state.

Although Fayemi may also try to bring his candidate on board, but the possibility of his candidate defeating Fayose's candidate is almost impossible.

Despite the fact that Fayemi is the governor of Ekiti state and has tried his best for the people of the state, Fayose still enjoys more acceptance and popularity more than him which will aid his return as the political leader of the state and build his own political umpire.
