Medical Association Rejects Percentage Payment By Kogi Govt
Kogi chapter of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has rejected the proposed percentage salary payment to medical workers by Governor Yahaya Bello.
Speaking on Sunday in Lokoja, the Chairman of Kogi chapter of NMA, Dr. Kabiru Zubair, said NMA will not accept the percentage salary for medical doctors and other health workers in the state.
The NMA chairman said, the medical association strongly reject the proposed percentage salaries when its attention was drawn to it, adding that it's not unaware of the global pandemic of COVID-19 down turn.
According to him, the doctors in Kogi State have been getting along on half salaries before now
which he said was caused by non implementation of corrected Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, and N30,000
minimum wage.
He explained that the failure to implement this has caused the failure for salary adjustment, skipping, relativity, promotion and annual step increment.
He said the medical association will not accept any further salary cut again because an average medical doctor under Kogi Civil Service is already at serious financial disadvantage compare to their counterpart in Federal Civil Service and other state of the federation.
He, however, warned that any further cut in the salary of the workers will will impoverish the health workers and such would lead to the Exodus of doctors from the state civil service.
