Kogi Awaits Return Of 35 Almajiris From Nasarawa
Kogi State government is currently waiting for the return of 35 Almajiris who will be deported from Nasarawa State as Covid-19 continues.
This is sequel to the decision of Nasarawa State to return 4,443 Almajiris to their states of origin and 35 of them are indigenes of Kogi state.
The action of Nasarawa state government to return all non indigene Almajiris came after the teleconference meeting head by all Northern Governors where they agreed to repatriate all Almajiris to their various states for proper care by their parents as Covid-19 continues and governor Yahaya Bello was part of the meeting.
The news that 35 Almajiris will be repatriated to Kogi State from Nasarawa has caused mixed reactions in the state due to the reports that deported Almajiris are testing positive in other states.
While some indigenes of the state argued that Kogi State does not have Almajiri, few others have came out to say that Kogi State contributed to Almajiri system in the Northern Nigeria.
One of the indigenes of the state, Mohammed Danjuma, confirmed that Kogi State has Almajiri, saying him and his father were once Almajiris in Nasarawa State.
He said, “Long time ago, my Daddy did in Keffi. Even me I did it in Keffi, but my Daddy took me back when I rounded up my primary school Yelwa Primary School, Keffi,” he said on Facebook.
Another indigene of the state, Jibrin Abdulrauf Nuhu also confirmed that he met an Almajiri in Niger State who was Kogi origin.
He said, “I met one in Suleja Niger state sometimes last year. Since then I can’t stop thinking about the innocent boy. All efforts to see his father then didn’t yield any result”, he said.
However, a former APC House of Reps candidate in the State, Engr. Kayode Adegbayo has advised the state government to send representative to Nasarawa State to confirm that the 35 Almajiris are truly from Kogi State, adding that if they were truly from Kogi, the state government should quarantine them for 14 days upon their return before handing them over to their parents.
