Why Saraki Will Bounce Back As 'Political godfather' Of Kwara State

Bukola Saraki is one politician Nigerians will not forget in a hurry because of his smart political calculations and his show of manliness during his time as the Senate President of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Within his time as the Senate President, he bestrode the Nigerian Senate chamber like a colossus and meander through numerous traps that would have consumed him. He is indeed a political maestro and demonstrated all he learnt under the  tutelage of his late father, Dr. Olusala Abubakar Saraki.

Unless for the President of Nigeria, Saraki has achieved everything in politics and has left a legacy as a courageous man who remained unbroken when he faced the toughest time as the leader of the President of the Nigerian Senate.

Born Olubukola Abubakar Saraki,
on December 19, 1962 to the famous Dr. Olusola Abubakar Saraki of Kwara State. Bukola his learnt smart politicking from his late father, Olusola Saraki who was the Senate President of Nigeria in second republic.

Bukola Saraki, who had his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degree from London Hospital Medical College of the University of London, from 1982 to 1997 had worked as a Medical Officer at Rush Green Hospital, Essex from 1988 to 1989 before working at Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria Limited and rose to the position of Executive Director.

After joining politics, he became the Governor of Kwara State as the executive governor of the state on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, between 2003 to 2011 Where Kwara State became the first state in Nigeria to complete the Nigeria Independent Power Project.

Saraki contested for Senate on the platform of Peoples PDP in 2011. He was re-elected in 2015 on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC.  Saraki was smart enough to win the Senate President against the decision of his party who had settled for Ahmad Lawan.

Although he faced a stiff opposition but remained unbent and managed the barrage of attack till he delivered his valedictory speech on the Senate Chamber in 2019.

Saraki's Influence In Kwara

What many people may not know is the fact that Saraki did not fail to return to Senate in 2019 general election because the people of Kwara hate him, what happened was a pure 'political gang-up' for him not to return to the Senate.

The cabals knew and understood the might of Saraki's political influence and the level of loyalty he enjoyed in the senate chamber, it would have been difficult for any candidate to defeat him in a fair contest for Senate President if he returns, then the only option left was to introduce what they tagged 'Otege' to remove him from the Senate Chamber at all cost.

Saraki still maintains a high level of influence in Kwara, he was shortchanged during the election and his sister Gbemisola Ruqayyah Saraki who helped in perfecting the political arrangement was rewarded with the Minister of State for Transportation.  'Otege' was not about the entire Saraki's family, it was a 'political coup' to remove Bukola Saraki from Senate chamber and not Olusola Saraki's dynasty inherited by Bukola Saraki.

This same arrangement also affected the governorship candidate Saraki supported during the 2019 governorship election. They made many Nigerians to believe they are taking Kwara from Saraki political  dynasty, but that was wrong, it was to remove Bukola Saraki's relevance in Kwara.

It may surprise to note that many of those things seen during the 'Otege' movement in 2019 were stage managed, the people of Kwara love and value Saraki for his uneqaulled development and his strides at the Senate chamber.

Why Saraki Will Bounce Black As The Political 'godfather' of Kwara

The people of Kwara State have already realized the power play that sent Saraki out of the Senate President seat and how they were deceived into buying the 'Otege' movement.

Another thing that will also make it easy for Saraki to come back is the fact that the present government in the state on the platform of APC has not done anything much different to convince the people of the state that the choice of Saraki for Kwara was bad.

What will also work for Saraki to retain his relevance in Kwara State is the fact that the present State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq did a big mistake by demolishing the legacy of Olusola Saraki, Ile Arugbo.

Olusola Saraki is adjudged as the democratic father of Kwara state and the demolition of his legacy has rather made the people to develop uncommon love and sympathy for Bukola Saraki who has suffered more than enough political persecution.

It will be easy for Bukola Saraki to ride on this sympathy and seal his relevance again as the political godfather of Kwara State.
