Kogi Govt Begins Active Contact Tracing Despite Denying COVID-19 Index Case
Despite denying the COVID-19 index case reported for the state by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Kogi State government has commenced active contact tracing to identify and test all those who came in contact with the disputed index case in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna, in Lokoja on Saturday, said the state COVID-19 team, alongside World Health Organization, WHO, officials tested people who had contact with the index case and they all came back negative.
The Commissioner for Health added that the the traced persons will be retested in the next fourteen days while insisting that the NCDC recorded fictitious cases of Covid-19 for Kogi state.
The Kogi state government claimed that what the son of the 62 year old man said is quite different from the information NCDC gave to Nigerians, stressing for the fact that the man is still at National Hospital, Abuja with his son running an errand for him has refuted the claim of NCDC that the man and his son are COVID-19 positive.
The Commissioner, however, noted that the contact tracing shows how serious Kogi State government is in the fight against the virus but will continue to fight against any move by NCDC to allocate fictitious cases to the state.
"Nigerians should start asking NCDC what they stand to gain by manufacturing fictitious claims and attaching them to states", he said.
