Kogi SDP Guber Candidate, Natasha Akpoti Loses Bid To Stop Gov Yahaya Bello At Tribunal, Orders To Pay Fine

The candidate of Social Democratic Party, SDP, at the November 16 governorship election in Kogi State, Barr Natasha Akpoti has lost bid to nullify the election of Governor Yahaya Bello of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who won the election.

Natasha in a petition marked EPT/KG/GOV/07/2019 sought the relief of the Tribunal to nullify the election of Governor Yahaya Bello on the ground that the election was marred by violence, over-voting, and manipulation of figures.

However, the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja in a surprise judment on Monday, dissmised the petition of Natasha Akpoti and asked her to pay fine.

In a unanimous judgment by the three-man Justices of the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal led by Justice Kashim G. Kaigama dismissed the case for lack of merit and asked the SDP governorship candidate to pay N100,000 fine each to APC and INEC.

The Tribunal held further that the Petitioners failed to prove their case and would pay the fine.

In a swift reaction, the SDP candidate has taken to her social media handle to inform her supporters about the development, and vowed to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal.

According to her, the judment did not represent the reality that transpired on the election day, adding that it sounds more rediculous by asking her to pay fine to APC and INEC for challenging the irregularities that happened on the November 16 governorship election in Kogi State.

The appellate court will review the judgment of the Tribunal if it was right to dismiss her petition for lack of merit and ask her to pay N100,000 fine each to APC and INEC.
