Women, Others Whips Gov Bello's Spokesman for Anti-Women, Religious Statement
The Director General of Media and Publicity to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo is currently being whipped by women and other Nigerians on social media for stating on National Television that women and Christians are not culturally allowed in the central senatorial district of the state to contest political positions.
Fanwo who is from Kogi West extraction of the state made the statement on Sunday while responding to questions of violence in the state on "Democracy Today," a programme hosted by Ijeoma Osamor on African Independent Television.
Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti who was physically present at the programme narrated
cases of intimidation and violence on her campaign and supporters where she indicted the State Governor as being responsible for the attacks.
While reacting to the allegations, Fanwo said: "The point she didn't understand was the place of culture where she came from. The point is that in Kogi Central, the place is predominantly made up of Muslims, they don't usually support women that do not have what I'll call proper family."
When asked by Osamor to define what he meant, Fanwo said "what it means is that if you are supporting any woman, the woman must conform to some Islamic qualifications."
The people of Kogi Central who felt embrassed by the statement of Fanwo took to social media, calling him out to either apologize or resign his appointment as the official spokesman of the Governor.
