Arrest of Former VC: OAU Lecturers Protest
Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife staged a protest over the arrest and detention of the institution's former acting vice-chancellor, Prof Anthony Elujoba.
According to reports, the professor is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged fraud.
Our source revealed that, "he was arraigned on Friday, July 7, for fraud at the Osun state High Court sitting in Ede.
"Consequently, he was ordered to be remanded in the EFCC custody until Tuesday (tomorrow) when his bail allocation would be heard."
The report added that the embattled professor was accused by the EFCC of paying workers’ bonus with over N1bn.
The workers on their part insisted that the former Vice Chancellor, Prof Bamitale Omole, should have being prosecuted.
The Punch gathered that lecturers at the university demanded for the release of Elujoba by staging a protest led by the ASUU chairman Dr. Niyi Sumonu.
Reports have it that workers and students alike believe the embattled professor did well during his tenure.
