Kogi Varsity Lecturers Meet in Hotel, Vow to Continue Strike

Kogi State University lecturers under the auspices of the proscribed Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU-KSU) on Tuesday held its meeting in a hotel in Anyigba and vowed to continue the over six months old industrial action that has paralyzed academic activities in the state owned tertiary institution.




Ebira Reporters reported that:  "the lecturers took the decision in a congress held in Harbor Bay, a popular hotel in Anyigba

"In a chat with one of the lecturers who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the academicians on the campus are currently divided on resumption.

"He revealed that while academic activities have picked up in some departments across faculties, other departments may have been held bound by the "rebelling forces."

"These people are not resuming, and I am disappointed. We went on strike on demands that have been met, yet they want to continue on another issue entirely." said the lecturer.

The report added that: "He also confirmed that the state government is up to date with payment of their salaries, adding that the union may have been hijacked to score political points as earlier alleged by the governor, Alh Yahaya Bello.

"A student on campus who monitored the activities of the union reported that the lecturers had tried to hold their congress in Natural Sciences, their formal venue, but had to relocate on the sight of men of the Nigerian Army stationed there by the management."
