Natasha Makes Case At Police Headquarters As Gov Bello Shields Aides

The Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello shielded his Adminstrator, his Commissioner from being apprehended by the police over political violence in Kogi Central.



The Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for Kogi Central, Barr. Natasha Akpoti on Monday presented a case of alleged attacks on her campaign and that of her supporters by Kogi APC, while Governor Yahaya Bello shielded his aids fingered in the political violence.

Akpoti who was at the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operation, Abdulmajid Ali, the Kogi State commissioner for water resources, Salami Ozigi and OKehi Administrator, Abdulraheem Ohiare who were supposed to appear and answer questions bordering their involvement in the political violence in Okehi local government that has claimed the lives of innocent young men and properties worth millions of naira failed to appear to clear the air.

A source disclosed that while the governor's aides failed to appear and face Natasha Akpoti to defend themselves before the Nigerian police hierarchy, Governor Yahaya Bello later led them to the office of the Inspector General of Police to answer the allegations levelled against them for the fear of being arrested if he lives them to defend themselves.

Natasha had earlier presented her case before DIG operation, Abdulmajid Ali, and the Kogi state Commissioner of Police, Akeem Busari and OKehi Area Commander, Adegoke Rufus who were also summoned by the Inspectors General of Police.

Akpoti disclosed that she and her supporters has suffered undue persecution in the hand of Kogi APC, the height of which she said resulted into the death of her supporter, Ojo Enesi and destruction of her father's house and that of her supporters.

She decried that the Kogi state police command released the suspects of the heinous crimes despite a video evidences of their confession, adding that instead of arresting the sponsors the police arrested her 68year old uncle, Mr. Dele Akpoti, many of her supporters and currently pushing for her arrest while the thugs and their sponsors walk freely in the community.

She noted that, as a law abiding citizen, she believed in fair play and prayed the police to give justice to the dead and those whose hard-earned properties were destroyed and unjustly prosecuted.

Reacting, the DIG Operation said, it is the responsibility of Nigerian police to maintain peace in votile areas, adding that Kogi State commissioner of police must deal with whoever is perpetrating the political violence as Nigerian police hierarchy will not condone any violence in the name of politics.

He promised to do everything possible to restore peace in the affected areas before, during and after election.

On their own side, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Akeem Busari and OKehi Area Commander, Adegoke Rufus pointed out that they are doing their best to maintain peace in the area, explaining that they wouldn't take side in the current political crisis in Kogi Central.
