OPINION: Ebira Elites and the Conspiracy of Silenc | By Yousouf Adeku Abdulkadir
We are a beautiful people. We are known for our love for justice. We are bold and kindhearted. We are loyal to a fault. And we speak our mind no matter whose Ox is gored. We are not known to keep quite in the face of injustice or tyranny. That is why this conspiracy of silence is unsettling.
Speech they say is sliver and silence golden. But there comes a time when silence no matter how golden becomes tantamount to cold collusion with the forces of retrogression and darkness. At such a time it becomes a solemn act to speak.
Natasha H. Akpoti is being hounded and hunted. Her supporters are being killed, houses burnt, Kogi central women and youths being warned in their homes not to vote Natasha H Akpoti for Senate! What is OUR crime?
State sponsored terrorism is not different from fundamentalist acts of terrorism. While others are condemning these acts of repression in the strongest terms possible, our elites have for a mess of porridge sold off their birthrights.
The silence of Ebira elites is cowardly. A strange illness at a strange time. Their silence breeds a culture of totalitarian regime by agents of darkness who daily are measuring the success of their reign by the number of those killed or maimed.
In Kogi Central Democracy dies in darkness!
