OPINION: Senate Race: It Is Election, Not War, Why Killing? (Part 5) | Ogo’Ogu

Ladies and gentlemen, permit me to use this golden opportunity to join the sons and daughters of Kogi central and Kogi state at large in celebrating His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello Adoza, the Executive Governor of Kogi state as his clocked 3years in office and I say congratulations.

This January, I said to myself, I am dropping my pen, I will fold my paper and preserve my ink but few days ago the words of Barack Obama knocked me down and I began to search for pen again. He said and I quote; “What I am asking for is hard. It is easier to be cynical; to accept that change isn’t possible, and politics is hopeless, and to believe that our voices and actions don’t matter. But if we give up now, then we forsake a better future.”

It is a matter of depression, pain and shame for me that I am compelled at this moment despite the lost of one of our gallant youth, on the 11th of January 2019 at Obeiba, Okehi LG, and in this sad and tensed period I have summoned the courage to address my people in a language we all understand.

Come with me as I draw inspiration from the words of Asma Jahangir who said, “The morality of a society is not judged by the behaviour of an oppressed class but by the rules and laws made by the state, which either protect or exploit an already depressed section of society.”
Ladies and gentlemen, We live in a fragmented and disconnected culture. Our politics is ugly, religion is deceptively struggling, technology is to make governance and life easy or accessible to electorate and the elect, but unfortunately it has become more stressful and a tool to oppress the society.

Our leaders are terror; they rather kill to gain or maintain positions than walk their way, through conviction, into the heart of the electorates.
It was Barr Natasha who said to me, “OGO’OGU, it is impossible to have a peaceful working society where truth and justice are trampled on by those who are saddled with the responsibility to administer justice in the society. Peace can only be possible and sustained when we respect the rule of law, individual differences and tolerate one another regardless of our cultural, religious and political affiliations”

Great men and women, His excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, I salute you. It does not matter our ideology or political philosophy, we remain brothers. So I appeal to you to give me your attention as i once again call your attention to the insecurity and threat to lives and property in Okehi Local Government and Kogi Central at large especially as we draw closer to the general elections.

The death of Ojo Enesi is no longer a news to your excellency. Your greater strength when you took over the leadership of Kogi State in 2016 was security and we were all happy and supportive. But recently, the table is turning gradually towards the fading era of criminal activities. The killer of Ojo Enesi is not hidden, his name is everywhere, yet he walks freely in the society. This is dangerous to our community if you allow this in your government. Because, according to Franklin D. Roosevelt, “In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.”

Your excellency, remember a society or government where investigation, arrest and trial of a crime is not speedily executed, people are encouraged to commit more crimes… You must demand for the arrest of the killer of Ojo Enesi before it is too late. And remember “The ballot is stronger than the bullet…think your Excellency.

Your Excellency, it is also no longer a news that one of your appointed Local Govt Administrators, Hon Abdulraheem Ohiare, the administrator of Okehi LG is truly making more enemies, causing violence, empowering and encouraging thugs in Okehi local government. It is time you listen to the cry of majority, Okehi deserve more than Abdulraheem Ohiare’s leadership which is more committed to harassing, oppressing and killing citizens than it has focused on the real business of governance. His actions and in actions are antithetical to the progress of the society where the people can freely express their opinions without intimidation and persecution.
On the base of this foundation democracy is built on, and anything contrary is a rape of the principle of democracy… and if nothing is done, peace and unity will be mere rendering of lip service to the situation. The unique thing about our society is that we have traditional and religious leaders, yet all have been politicized, they have sold out their conscience, and  compromised the place of patriotism. Wisdom and truth have departed from them. Mammon have taken over their activities yet we all gather on Fridays and Sundays in a land that is soaked with the blood of innocent…No wonder Felix Ozi Ajayi said “God is not a man and He cannot be deceived”.

Stop the hypocrisy, people of central and be just to yourselves.
I weep for the liberty of my state when I see this days successful experiment that corruption has been imbibed in many, and the rights of the people have been bartered for promises of office and token. Corruption is not only the business of the elect, even the electorate (followers) is guilty and for these reason good governance is made impossible for the selected few who long and thirsty for it.

As a progressive youth, I call on the leaders of various party, we cannot continue like this and birth a working society. We need peace, our fathers and  mothers are crying for it, peace have become our children chorus.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, young and old, listen to me…

When politics is no longer a mission but a profession, politicians become more self-serving than public servants, they become desperate, cruel and violent for ambition.
Leaders, I implore you to draw inspiration from the wisdom of Linda McMahon maybe it will help you to take a swift decision to curb the present security challenge in our society. He said, “Optimism is the ultimate definition of a leader. A leader has to look optimistically at what is ahead while not ignoring the challenges that must be overcome. Those challenges are in government, politics, world leadership, and even in community life.”

No real social change has ever been brought about without a revolution. Revolution is the thought carried into action without splitting innocent blood but democratically equipped the people with their rights to choose their leaders (PVCs) and create enabling environment for peaceful dialogue geared towards societal development. Come 16 Feb, 2019 that right is expected to be exercised in the best interest of society without intimidation and harassment.

Mao Zedong opined a distinction between politics and war here, “politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed”. Ladies and gentlemen, we are preparing for politics not war, why harming ourselves? Who is against who? who do you want to kill and why do you have to go to that extend?

Donald Trump said, “One of the key problems today is that politics is such a disgrace, good people don’t go into government..” We must as a matter of urgency call ourselves now before we all regret it, we don’t have to kill and inflict ourselves for a position that last just for maximum 8 years. But for those plotting evil, you will pay with your blood.
I pray, as we draw closer to the day, God will speak to our leaders to look into heaven once more and fear the Lord of Hosts.

God bless you. God bless Kogi State. God bless Kogi Central, and God bless GYB.
We will have the last laugh in Jesus name…Amen.
