2019: Kogi Central Standstill For Natasha's Campaign
Ahead of 2019 geeneral election, Kogi Central senatorial district stoodstill for the unprecedented road tour campaign of the senatorial candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Kogi Central, Barr. Natasha Akpoti.
In what could be described as total demonstration of the unalloyed support and acceptance of Natasha Akpoti's candidacy, the people of Kogi Central trooped out in their thousands to declare their support for the first female senatorial candidate in the district
The road tour which started from Obangede junction, Oboroke Ihima, OKehi local government passed through Adavi, and Okene local government, witnessed thousands of Ebira people who trekked from Ihima to Okene, declaring their unflinching supports for the Kogi born Ajaokuta campainer.
Addresing the Mammoth, Akpoti said she is overwhelmed with the total acceptance of the people of Kogi Central for her candidacy, adding the people are ready to right the wrongs of the past.
She pointed out that the people did not just decide to trek from Ihima to OKene for fun, saying it was a demonstration of their love, support and readiness to have a voice that will be able to fight for them and creates opportunities for the young and old.
She said, "this is not about me, it's about all of us standing for our future, when you vote for me into the Senate, I am going to be your voice and fight for you.
"I know the pain for poverty is not easy, I will not be in the senate and budget will be passed without capturing Kogi Central.
"My party is SDP, with the logo of horse. Tell your friends and family that Natasha is coming to stand for them, it's not about political leanings, it's about standing for our future, let's continue to preach peace.
"We need peace into the election, continue to preach peace, do not sell your vote on the day of election, you are too big for five thousand naira.
"I am a real Ebira daughter and I wouldn't fear anybody to keep my ideas that can transform my father's land to myself, it's time to change our narrative", she said.
Natasha Akpoti became a household name in Kogi Central by her advocacy for the revitalisation of the moribund Ajaokuta steel in her senatorial district which she took to the hallowed chamber and suggested the various ways the giant steel plant can be revived.
Part of her recommendations include, opening of one billion dollar lifeline which the senate approved its bill recently and the creation of steel authority and steel laws that will guide the operations and management of Ajaokuta steel and other steel plants in Nigeria when fully revamped.
While campaigning for the revival of Ajaokuta steel plant, Natasha Akpoti also demonstrated a strong zeal to creating other means of employment opportunities for her people through Ebira Kitipa fabric.
Natasha explained that in her quest to create opportunities for her people, she followed the traditional way and Ebira women spun the cotton which they used for the Kitipa fabric and used to make NYSC, Army and Police shoes.
Whilst she lamented lack of patronage from government despite attesting to its high quality, she said she will fight for its approval when she gets to the Senate.
