Open Letter to President Muhammad Buhari: | Joseph Ozigis Akomodi
Dear Mr. President,
I will first salute your integrity, but integrity without decisive leadership equates to nothing. I have observed your leadership style critically for the past 3 years going into four years. I have to be realistic with you, because you are ones the Governor I knew back in the 70s for the North Eastern State specifically for Adamawa, Bauchi, Maiduguri, Gongola States.
You are one kind of a person that I admired as a true leader. Even in 1985 when I visited Nigeria shortly before Babangida overthrew you, I still salute your leadership. This your present administration, does not impress me at all. When the issue of National interest surface instead of you to stage a press conference to address the matter or denounced what is happening you kept mute over the atrocities of those under your watch that called themselves Ministers at various levels.
To make the matter worst, the Governor of Kogi State you crowned as the Chief Security of your party when the masses are dying of hunger for his orchestrated suffering he brought upon the masses and the insecurity in our land especially Kogi State. Mr. President, it is unfair to turn a deaf ear to those who elected you and you took an oath to serve as the President of Nigeria?
Your silence to most issues in Nigeria simply means guilt in every dimension. Sir, I am sure in your State Daura, there are candidates from different political parties for a leadership position at various political platforms and yet there have never been a report of intimidation by APC supporters in Daura. This is not the first time I am writing an open letter to you regarding the undemocratic behaviours of Governor of Kogi State inherited from your administration.
Sir, what I expected you to do is to forget about party loyalty, As President of Nigeria, you took an oath to defend every citizen of Nigeria whether they voted for you or not because as you have been given the mandate majority, you represent all Nigerians to be precise. If I could recall your inauguration speech, you clearly stated you belong to all Nigerians. Your words do not match your actions in Nigeria.
I was one of your strong supporters in the 2015 election, but I cannot remain your supporter when all the promises you made none you fulfilled. We all know that the previous administration did not do well. That is the reason, despite the amount of money Jonathan pumped out for manipulations of election Nigerians hold heartedly supported you.
I also wanted to remind you, that you are empowering Governor of Kogi State to terrorize his people; God will not have mercy for that. You cannot tell me what is going on in Nigeria especially Kogi State you are not aware of it. Even though Governors have immunity in Nigeria when you have a Governor from your own party that is misbehaving badly the right thing to do is advise him if he refuses you tell him not to come to a drink tea every morning in Abuja but instead you empowered such dubious leader to use such avenue to harass the ordinary citizens more.
Governor Yahaya Bello had said on numerous occasions that if you asked him to jump into the fire he will do it without hesitation. How comes your counsel is not reflective of him and his actions. He declared a public holiday because you returned to Nigeria from medical leave. How many of the State Governors that did that? That signified that if you had advised the right away, he would not be destroying your leadership.
Yahaya Bello has just recently dislodged his stooges in Kogi Central to unleash on the political opponent of his purported candidate that he wanted to impose on us. It is clear in Central Senatorial District of Kogi State the choice of the masses should prevail over the anointed Oseni that is carrying the flag bearer of APC.
Even though Natasha Hadiza Akpoti is coming out in SDP as a woman, she is your daughter as well. How could you sleep when you see a Governor that does not merit it been a Governor abusing his power, yet you brought him closer to empower him the more. That means you give him accolade to continue dislodging his uncouth style of intimidation on his people and you remained silent.
This letter is written, to specifically to place Natasha Hadiza Akpoti in your hands if anything happened to her in Kogi State, Allah will not forgive you and those you have empowered to create havoc in our State of Kogi. Right now, in Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello have placed all thugs as LG Administrators of various part of Kogi State and charged them to delivered Kogi State by fire to APC. As a true leader, is that the kind of leadership, you wanted for Nigerians? Even though such leadership will never happen in Daura where you originated.
I am not in any way saying that you must chastise the Governor for us. What I wanted you to understand if a leader is not doing right by his people the least you can do is your refusal to empower him. I also believe that as the President of Nigeria even though you have party Chairman of APC, you have more say in your party than many people. That means ethical standard should have been in place for all party members and any member that violated such ethical standard should not be empowered by the party in any form.
In conclusion, I strongly advise immediately that the Governor of Kogi State should be called to your office for counseling because he lacked what it takes to be a leader. If you are not promoting anarchy in our land. I thanked for your listening ears when this open letter gets to your desk.
I am a concerned citizen of Kogi State residing in the United States
Respectfully Yours,
