2019: I will Work to Create Robust Market For Kitipa Fabric - Natasha
The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Kogi Central senatorial district, Barr. Natasha Akpoti on Friday assured the people of Kogi Central that she will work to Create robust market for Ebira kitipa Fabric when she gets to the upper chamber.
Akpoti disclosed this during her campaign in Ganaja village, and Jimgbe areas of Ajaokuta local government, saying she will consolidate on her efforts to get approval for Ebira Kitipa fabric for making NYSC, Military and paramilitary shoes.
Speaking on her plan to create employment opportunities for women and the teeming youths, she said, it is an injustice to have skill and be deprived of it.
She pointed out that in looking for a viable means to creating employment opportunities, "we narrowed our focus to Kitipa Fabric, there are so many things you can do with our kitipa fabric.
"We use Ebira Kitipa fabric to make Army, Police, and NYSC shoes. We followed the traditional way and our women spun the cotton they used to make kitipa which we later used to make the shoes.
"We approached NYSC Coordinator and the military for patronage, they all attested that it is of high quality than the ones they imported from foreign countries but due to Nigerian factor we are still battling for patronage", she said.
She added that she will use her office to consolidate on her efforts to making sure her initiative; Ebira kitipa fabric shoe for NYSC, military and paramilitary gets the right nod from the federal government.
According to her, to supply NYSC shoe alone will generate two thousand job annually and two billion naira revenue annually.
She said, "the government passed a law to encourage local patronage but the law only exist on paper because there is nobody to make it work", she said.
Speaking on her Ajaokuta advocacy, Natasha said as an individual she and her team championed the advocacy for Ajaokuta revitalisation which recently got the right attention from the lawmakers and passed the bill seeking for one billion dollar funding for the completion of Ajaokuta steel company.
She added that she will not only consolidate on the efforts for Ajaokuta steel to work, explaining that she will also fight to give what belongs to Kogi Central as the host community.
She assured Kogi Central women that she will work to get zero interest loan through international organisations to boost their businesses and end the reign of 'lapo' with high interest which the women take as the last resort because of the high level of poverty in the land.
While tasking Natasha to carry them along in the scheme of things when she gets to the upper chamber, Gaku of Ganaja village, HRH. Alh. Yahaya Umaru Anaja and the Awo of Jimgbe, HRH. Alhaji Abdullahi Umar assured Natasha of their supports and that of their subjects.
