I Stand With Natasha H Akpoti Forever | By Yousouf Adeku Abdulkadir
My love for her is perhaps the world best known open secret! In a season where Natasha is being hunted and haunted and hounded.
Where dogs kill and eat lions.
Where the loyalty of men is bought with a pot of soup. A season where erstwhile friends switch sides faster than a sporadic drunk changes beer bottle.
In such a season where democracy dies in darkness, I refused to conform. I refuse to stand on the side of mediocrity and darkness. I stand with Natasha Hadiza Akpoti.
She is the sum total of all our dreams, hopes, nightmares and aspirations as a people. Her Ajaokuta Steel Revival movement is a watershed in the history of protest in Nigeria. Her entrepreneurship drive towards the revival of our indigenous cottage industries such as the weaving and even tiles making is up there with the best. To make mention of her philanthropy is to sound like a broken record.
The obvious fact is Natasha H. Akpoti is one of us. Not a moneybag candidate. Not a
begger-thy-tribesmen godfather candidate. Not an intellectually castrated politician. Natasha is from a different world. . She is our candidate. The poor and suffering farmers, market women, artisans, students, - even the socially excluded and economically marginalized unemployed youths and the civil servants who awaits death by installment due to non-payment of salaries. She is their candidate. We sing her songs. Because that is our song. She dance our dance because that is her dance. Her story is our story. Ubuntu! She is because we are!!
But beyond her well polished and elaborately articulated social contract with Kogi electorates, beyond her astonishing intellectual prowess and Cicero like oratory, beyond her heart of gold that has touched many lives positively, beyond her politics of nonviolence and social inclusion, beyond all the political shenanigans and abracadabra what stand this beautiful, calm, cool, collected, calculated, lucid and thorough lady out from the crowd is her touch of humanity that borders closely to the divine.
I mention her name alongside those of Evita Peron. Princess Diana. Magreth Thatcher. Mother Theresa. Emotan. She is such a living colossus. A moving spirit of positivity. A walking encyclopedia of inexhaustible knowledge.
Whatever the court rule by next week. If she ends up not being on the ballot come November 16, one thing the corrupt system will not and can NEVER change is her place in our hearts. She is our Senator. She is our Governor.
