Kogi Guber: INEC Admits Natasha Was Attacked, Says They Sent Lawyer to Rescue Her
The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Tuesday, said the commission sent a lawyer to rescue the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Barr Natasha Akpoti when they heard she was attacked by thugs at the venue of the PEACE pact meeting organized by INEC in Lokoja.
The electoral umpire made this known while responding to Natasha Akpoti's post on twitter, saying, when we heard you were attacked, we sent our Legal Officer to search for you.
The electoral umpire added that,
"first let me say that it was unfortunate that you were attacked. The meeting was already well on course when you arrived. When we heard you were outside, we sent our Legal Officer to search for you. He came back after searching the entire premises to report that.
"You have every right to attend the Stakeholders’ Meeting and the attack on you by unknown persons is reprehensible.
"However, we were all inside the tightly packed hall and we tried all we could to save the situation when we got the information", the commission said.
Natasha Akpoti lamented in her post that, "I was invited as a stakeholder. IGP, prof Mahmood Yakubu etc all sat in the hall while 30 of Yahaya Bello’s thugs in APC shirts sexually & physically attacked me before 500+ policemen who did nothing to stop them", she said.
Reacting, a twitter user, Dr. Marko April said, it was unfortunate INEC still went ahead to sign the peace accord.
"And yet u still signed the accord? U should by now know that peace accord during the election is a fraud. INEC and APC are partners in crime. They will both rig the election, rig judiciary and even kill innocent people. The peace accord is a fraud by INEC!!!", he alleged.
Another twitter user, AMESI O. FAITH, said it was unfortunate that INEC now speakers for governor Bello who was fingered in the attack.
"INEC is now a spokes person for Yahayah Bello. God save us, @inecnigeria is no longer ashamed of their rascality & favoritism they display. This current INEC is now a joke, what a dishonor to the institution", the user reacted.
Opia Azuka on his own response said, "It's a shame that democracy has been hijacked, raped and abused to the extent of coming to social Media to be explaining your biased politics over an assault on a citizen seeking to live for her people. Shame on Nigeria's dead democracy. Shame on all of you", he said.
