Uni Abuja Registrar, 21 Others Suspended For Protesting
The Registrar of University of Abuja, Rifkatu Swanta has been suspended indefinitely alongside 21 other staff of the institution by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) over anti-union activities.
According to our source, the staff were sacked by SSANU while alleging that the officials of the institution held a rally at the University of Abuja protesting corrupt practices by some members of the management.
It was gathered that the officials while protesting said the sack of two of its members by members of the University of Abuja governing council for whistle-blowing is illegal.
The suspension letter of the officials was titled, "Suspension of some SSANU members in University of Abuja” dated April 12, was addressed to the vice chancellor of the institution accused the suspended members of holding illegal
congress.
In the letter, SSANU asked the university management to henceforth stop any remittance of check-off dues of the affected members to the union.
Our source disclosed that "the letter which was signed by SSANU's deputy national president Moses Aogo said the union took its decision after the National Administrative Council (NAC) held its meeting on April 11. Aogo said the decision was taken after a thorough consideration of the report of anti-union activities brought against them."
