Nnamdi Kanu: My Bail Conditions Are Laughable
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has described his bail conditions as laughable and confirmed reports that he rejected conditions given to him by Justice Binta Nyako of Federal High Court in Abuja.
Speaking through his Chief Press Officer Chioma Chimeremeze, the IPOB leader said:
"Well looking at the bail conditions, you can agree with me that they are quite stringent. When you look at it you realize that some of them are laughable. Now talking about him not to be found in a gathering of more than 10 people, is laughable.
"This is the point, definitely, when he goes home they are a whole lot of people that will definitely come around him, what is he supposed to do? He should shy away from people he is supposed to talk to?
"He has a lot lot of community members that will definitely come around to see him, now how is that going to happen?
"This man you are talking about is the leader of IPOB - a lawful group - you telling him not to be around rallies and people is very laughable," she added.
The chief Press added that the condition will not be accepted by Kanu, IPOB or the legal team.
"To me and the group, IPOB, and on behalf of Nnamdi Kanu himself, we don't accept the bail conditions; they are out of this world
"The bail conditions given to him is more like a house arrest, if he abides by all those conditions he might as well be confined to his room.
"By the time you bring his wife, bring his child, his siblings and parents you have more than 10 people, it is crazy, sorry to use that word but that is exactly what it is.
While reacting to reports that the IPOB leader also rejected his application because his co-accused were denied bail, Chimeremeze said, Kanu is not a selfish leader.
She noted: "Nnamdi Kanu is a leader who leads by example, a leader is selfless not selfish, he is an epitome of what leadership should be... a leader doesn't think of himself alone, he thinks first, about his people.
"The other three accused persons would not have been in Kuje Prions in the first place if not for him, so him being granted bail and the the others had theirs denied is also laughable.
"He is rejecting these conditions because he must feel what this people are feeling.
"Or you think because he has been granted bail, he will just run out of Kuje Prison and go spend time with his family while the other people remain there? That is not going to happen, he is a true leader and a true leader would definitely do what he has done."
