Three Killed In Kogi Over Chieftaincy Title

Three people have been killed in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State because of feud arising from claims of chieftaincy title.



According to a reliable source who don't want his name mentioned, problem started when two clans lay claims to the right of producing the chief in Akwu community degenerated into crisis and led to the death of three peoples in the area on Wednesday.

The source narrated that the feud over who produces the Onu Akwu stool has been a long problem between the clans for years, adding that the issue is currently in court.

The source added that they were sleeping on Wednesday night when the problem started and when they came out some houses were already on fire which he said resulted to about twenty houses being razed, retrieved three bodies and evacuated the injured to healths centres in Ankpa environs.

The source disclosed that among the houses burnt included the house of the Administrator of the Council, Mr. John Aduga whose family member is said to be one of the people contesting for the position.

Confirming the incidence, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, William Aya, said, on Thursday, that altercation over chieftaincy claiming led to the clash with consequent deaths and destruction in Ankpa LGA of the Kogi State.

According to him, apart from the three deaths and the burning of houses, five motorcycles were also burnt in the crisis.

He disclosed that the deaths would have been higher if not for the urgent intervention of Police Operatives in the local government, adding that arrest have been made and the people of the community deserted their homes when they saw the men of Nigeria Police who went to restore normalcy
