Opinion: Natasha has Etched her Name Amongst Courageous Women who Lived for Humanity: She Deserves our Mandate | Isah Bala

Oftentimes, I've read the story of courageous queen Amina of Zazzau kingdom, the courageous women of Aba who marched against the obnoxious taxation law of the colonialist, the unmatched vigour of Margaret Ekpo to secure women's place in governance, in Ebiraland, many who have been exposed to our rich history read with great enthusiasm the uncommon bravery of Onono Idogido who led other Ebira women in 1951 to revolt against odious taxation by the colonial masters.

In the modern era, we will surely write, and narrate the story of Barrister Natasha Hadiza Akpoti to our children, her activism, sacrifice and uncommon valour in her quest to unshackle her people from the manacles of maladministrstion and set Nigeria to achieve the true meaning of its creed through revitalisation of her moribund steel companies.

It will surely be on record that NATASHA led men to demand for the ideal thing to be done, she dared the perceived untouchables, she broke the stereotypical jinx, stood firm at the hallowed chamber before millions of Nigerians and the world to unvail the conspiracy and the gang-up against our common patrimony. She dared the acclaimed lords of the land and revealed to the world how our collective patrimony has been severely raped and the ongoing move to perpetually deprive the masses of its immense benefits and stifle life out of it.

For this uncommon stride to better the lots of her people not minding the danger involve, Natasha has written her name in gold and will surely be imprinted  in the hearts of people as a woman who against all odds stand for the masses and bear witness to truth before the world against the political truth.

In a saner clime, her type will be celebrated by everybody, but this is Nigeria where those that stand for the masses are fought back and forth by the power that be and the so-called 'deciders' use their power and wealth to make sure they didn't get to positions of authority because they are too good enough to rule and the fear that they wouldn't do their bidding.

But then the masses need to prove their worth, they need to prove that they are tired of misrepresentation and the need to choose between the highest bidder who will give them five thousand naira and onions at the polling booth and suffer for the rest of the year and the one who will bring sustainable succour to them and their children.
