Why We Haven’t Suspended Commissioner Danga – Kogi Govt

Arogbonlo Israel.

The State Government of Kogi, Sunday, has given reason for halting the suspension of its Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdulmumini Danga amidst the alleged assault, battery and other serious crimes leveled against the latter.

This was contained in a statement released to our reporter by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo.

“When the issue was brought to the notice of the Governor, he immediately directed thorough investigation into the allegations.

He said anyone found culpable will be prosecuted. “He did that as well leader of the state who understands that one of his key responsibilities is to protect the fundamental rights of the citizens and residents of the State.

“Investigations are ongoing now and we have confidence that the Police will do a thorough job on the matter,” the Commissioner disclosed.

On the reason why the accused (Commissioner Danga) has not been suspended from office, Mr. Fanwo explained; “Suspension is a punishment for wrongdoing.

Suspending him now will be sending a wrong signal. He has not been found guilty either via police investigations or law court.  “So, why should he be suspended?

If I leveled accusations against you as a journalist, will your organization just suspend you without investigations?

“At this point, we don’t know who is guilty or innocent yet. Investigations will reveal all that.

It is the responsibility of Government to protect both the accuser and the accused until the facts of innocence or guilt are out and the law will surely be applied. I have told people not to ask me whether he has been suspended or not.

“They should ask Sahara Reporters who released the suspension story. Sahara Reporters should be asked to produce the suspension letter. Such pen-gangsterism should be condemned by all,” he added.
