Emerging information has shown that a Nigerian from Kogi State, Dauda Onoruioza was one of the passengers involved in the ill-fated Ukrainian plane shot down by Iran.

Dauda Onoruoiza, a Lagos base who hailed from Kogi Central Senatorial District worked with Boeing 737 as technical officer in West Africa.

According to reports, Onoruoiza, was reported to be on three months training with the company in Ukraine and attached to the plane Boeing 737-800 to study the mechanical noise and report back as the plane was scheduled for maintenance on Monday 13th January, 2020 in Ukraine.

Just like other 176 passengers on board, Onoruoiza did not make it to his destination.

Giving the report of the crash, Ukraine Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko, Wednesday, announced the nationals of all passengers on board the ll-fated flight in Iran.

Prystaiko Twitted that the victims included 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians (including all the crew), 10 Swedes, four Afghans and three each from Britain and Germany.

Prystaiko announcement came hours after Ukraine International Airlines’ flight 752 crashed shortly after take off from Tehran’s international airport in Iran. The Red Crescent and Ukraine government confirmed all the 176 passengers were killed.

On Saturday, Iran’s military reversed its earlier statement that mechanical failure was to blame for the crash, admitting that it had accidentally shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet, blaming human error because of what it called the plane’s sharp, unexpected turn toward a sensitive military base.

President Hassan Rouhani disclosed on Twitter immediately after the military released its statement that, “The Islamic Republic of Iran deeply regrets this disastrous mistake,”.

While offering condolences to the victims’ families, he said investigations were underway. The military had earlier disclosed that the person responsible would face legal consequences.
