Amotekun Will Have Power to Arrest Criminals Says Attorney General
The Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Wale Fapohunda, has disclosed that the South-West security outfit, Operation Amotekun will have power to arrest suspected criminals after drafting the bills that will kick start the regional security outfit.
Justice Fapohunda disclosed this on Sunday while addressing news men, ahead of the South-West attorneys general meeting on February 6 to harmonise positions of different states on the proposed Operation Amotekun bills.
Available information, however, indicated that Lagos, Ogun and Ekiti states are leading the drafting of model bills for the South-West security outfit.
It will be recalled that the Federal Government and the South-West governors had, at a meeting in Abuja, Thursday, where they resolved their differences on Operation Amotekun, which was launched in Ibadan on January 9 for the purpose of addressing killings and kidnapping in the region.
The South-West governors in a meeting presided by the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, was attended by the South-West governors and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, who had earlier declared Operation Amotekun illegal on January 14, ended with both side agreed that each of the South-West states should make a law to back Operation Amotekun.
