Kogi Massacre: Time For New Police Commissioner to Comb The State

With the current space of killing, armed robbery and kidnappings in major highways of Kogi State, the new Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Ede Ayuba, must swing into action to comb Kogi State and its environs.

The level of insecurity in Kogi State was again brought to fore few days ago on the massacre that occurred at Tawari village when unknown gunmen attacked the village and killed 23 people while several persons are still been declared missing by the community as there whereabouts is still unknown by their families after the attack.

Barely two weeks after the November 16 governorship election in the state, the insecurity in the state took a different dimension with Kidnapping, armed robbery and assassination became the order of the day in the major highways of the state, a development that was attributed to the proliferation of arms that greeted the state governorship election.

ChannelsTV had reported on November 29 how players of FC Ifeanyi Ubah (Anambra Warriors) who were travelling to Kano for their scheduled NPFL matchday 6 fixture against Jigawa Golden Stars ran into a group of armed robbers dressed in NYSC uniforms, operating at Kabba junction, near Lokoja in Kogi state and left the driver of the bus and some members of the coaching crew and players critically injured.

The law enforcement officers were not left out in the spate of Kogi State insecurity. The News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN) had reported on November 30, 2019 how Gunmen attacked some Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials travelling from Abuja to Lagos at Oshawa along the Lokoja-Okene highway, killed the driver and left the other staff in the vehicle critically injured.

The Nation also reported on December 19, 2019 how a driver and 11 passengers of a Bayelsa-Abuja bound bus belonging to De-Prize Transport Company was abducted by unknown gunmen operating in Kogi State. It was learnt that two of the passengers were shot by the gunmen, one of them was said to have fortunately escaped from the assailants while others were led into a bush in Kogi.

As if these were not enough, PUNCH reported on December 22, 2019 how unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, kidnapped the President and sole financier of Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Dynamite Force Football Club, Bernard Jomah, along the Okene-Lokoja road in Kogi State and demanded for N20m Ransom.
The Guardian also reported on 01 January 2020 how a judge of Sharia Court of Appeal, Khadi Bala Muhammed, narrowly escaped death on Sunday evening when he was shot by some gunmen along Okene-Lokoja road, Kogi State. His driver was said to be unlucky, as the attackers took him away into the bush.

With these and many other crimes that have been the other of the day in Kogi State, the new commissioner of police in the state, CP Ede Ayuba, must not waist any time to swing into action to comb the state and control the proliferation of arms in the state.
