Gov. Bello rewards outstanding Kogi pupils in national competition

The Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Tuesday rewarded the outstanding performance of the Pupils of LGEA Demonstration Standard Nursery and Primary School, Onyukoko, Okene who recently made the state proud in the just concluded National Competition.



The governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Abubakar Ohere gave the reward while receiving the Pupils in his office in the state capital, Lokoja.

The fifteen Kid Medalists received the sum of one million five hundred thousand naira (N1, 500, 000) with each getting a hundred thousand naira (N100, 000) while their teachers were as well motivated with the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500, 000).

Recently, Kogi State was in the news after the state contingents won 5 gold medals out of 6; 5 silver medals out of 8; and 5 bronze medals out of 10 in the keenly contested Grand Finale of the 15th Edition of the Annual National Mathematics Competition organized by Nigerian -Tulip International Colleges in collaboration with National Mathematical Center at the Kaduna and Kano centres respectively and came 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 10th positions at the Kaduna centre, while at the Kano centre they emerged 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th,8th, 9th, 10th and 11th positions.

The competition witnessed by 18 Northern States and the outstanding pupils from Public Primary Schools in Okene Local Government Area emerged overall best. Of these Medalist Kids, both the gold and silver ware holders will be offered full scholarship with learning aids while those in the category of bronze medals are entitled to full tuition scholarship only.

Reiterating Governor Bello's dedication to qualitative education in the state, Ohere said it is entrenched in the five thematic areas of the New Direction Blueprint through qualitative training and motivation, revealing government's readiness to synergize with the Head Teacher, Mr. Abdullahi Abdulmalik while urging the school management to produce more of his likes in the educational sector across the state to impact and breed more of his kind who will continue to bring glories to the state.

Reacting, the Education Secretary of Okene Local Government Area, Mrs. Saratu Abdullahi appreciated the state Governor for his kind gesture and continuous support for education sector in the state.

According to the Head Teacher, Mr. Abdullahi Abdulmalik, "the school has maintained the record in the last five years with about 30 Pupils from Kogi State currently schooling in Nigerian Tulip International College on scholarship,"

Abdulmalik appreciated the state government for the honour and motivation promising to maintain the tempo.
