Work Will Soon Start on Okene Township, Odenyi-Oguma-Sheria Roads – Kogi Govt.

The Kogi State Executive Council has assured that construction works will soon start on the Okene Township roads as well as Odenyi/Oguma/Sheria road.



The Commissioner for Works and Urban Development, Engr Sadiq stated this while addressing the press at the end of the weekly State Executive Council meeting in Lokoja.

He said other major township roads across the state will soon receive government attention.
Also at the briefing, the Director General in Media and Publicity to the Governor of the state, Kingsley Fanwo, announced that the state executive council has approved the establishment of the State Drug Control Committee.

He said government has considered it expedient in view of the “high rate of drug abuse among the youth in both rural and urban areas in the state”, saying government is prepared to confront the “rising phenomenon” with all the attention needed.

“The Administration of Alh. Yahaya Bello considers the the youth as the best resource of the state. But the hopes of many youth have been dashed by the menace of drug abuse.

“As a responsible group government, the administration has approved the establishment of a control body to checkmate the rising trend of drug abuse. It is our hope that such a well mobilized institutional framework will help us combat the menace and restore normalcy in our society.

“His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello has pledged to play a prominent role in ensuring the success of the Committee”.

The Director General told newsmen that the Governor expressed satisfaction with the successful Ward, Local Government and State Congresses, saying that “the success recorded during the Congresses is an indication of the unity of the party in the State”.

He also said that the State Government has directed the release of N72.5m for the sustainability of the Kogi State Agricultural Development Project.

According to him, the fund will cater for Livestock, Agro-Forestry, fisheries, upgrading of Cassava Processing Center, Rural Institution Development, among others, saying the state has become the number one agricultural destination.
