May Day: Achuba Reassures Workers Of Better Welfare

Kogi state government has reassured workers across the state of better welfare and working Relationship for the good of the people.



Governor Yahaya Bello who gave the assurance at the 2018 Workers Day Celebration in Lokoja today said the welfare of workers in the state remained a top priority in his administration.

He advocated for the collaboration of workers and the State government to build a state where the future generation would be proud of, stating that government alone cannot achieve the feat.

Represented at the event by his Deputy, Elder Simon Achuba, the Governor said there was the need for harmonious relationship between the Government and the workers, urging the workers to build confidence and trust on the present administration of the state.

The Governor enjoined the workers to toll the part of dialogue whenever there is conflict between the government and workers, stating that with such method, there will be continuous harmony and peace in the state.

He said he was not unaware that workers were passing through someone challenges but assured that his administration would take better steps on all matters regarding salary payment.

On National Minimum Wage,  the Governor said Kogi state would comply and accept the amount fixed by the federal government, maintaining that “Nigerian workers deserve their wages”.

The Governor however charged workers to be effective in their responsibilities to the government even as he said government would equally play its own part.

On Ajaokuta Iron and Steel company,  the Governor urged the Federal Government to do what it takes to ensure the take off of the company.

According to him, “we are prepared to contribute our quota for the take off of Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Company . Ajaokuta cannot be privatised any more. As a government,  we are giving all to ensure the company takes off”.

Speaking earlier, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Onu Edoka said the challenges faced by workers in the state were enormous, urging government to review issues concerning workers welfare, condition of service, pension and security.

The NLC chairman appealed to the state government to ensure that workers get paid at the end of every month, stating that with such effort , there will be better relationship between the government and workers in the state.

He however commended the state government for opening a window opportunity through the office of the Head of service for those with complaints and petitions with a view to finally resolve them, while soliciting for early completion to bring succor to the categories of workers.
