Democracy Day: We Must Remain United - Ishaq Asuku Ilyas

The front line State house of Assembly aspirant in Adavi Constituency Ishaq Asuku Ilyas AKA (Rich man) has urged Nigerians to keep faith and remain united as one entity and not take for granted the liberty we enjoy as a people, saying democracy still remains the best form of governance.

Ishaq Asuku made the call in his Goodwill message on this year's Democracy day celebration and the 3rd year of the All progressives Congress in government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He stated that Nigerians have chosen democracy as the preferred system and viable method of governance because it is the only system of government that power truly belongs to the people, adding that as Nigeria keep nurturing this system the people will keep getting things right gradually, because it is only through democracy that any government in power is accountable to the people.

"It can only happen in democracy, the people above the government and not the government above the people

"The freedom and unity we enjoy today has been fought by our heroes past who laboured in obscurity and without proper gratitude to them even when they eventually achieved the unimaginable, the labours of our heroes past should not be in vain", he said.

According to the aspirant, the freedom of choice is the most important ingredient of the democratic system, freedom to choose leaders is what makes it admirable, and any system or form of governance that subvert or surcharge the will of the people is undemocratic and destroys the development of any society.

No nation will choose despotism or elect a despotic leader, because under dictatorship, criticism is met with torture and deaths, the gory days of the past is still in our history books and should never be allowed to rear its ugly head ever again, and for this reason I Urge Nigerian leaders to allow constructive criticism to thrive as we keep growing as Criticism is one of the pillars of democracy and those who hold government position irrespective of political party should remain committed to the welfare of Nigerians knowing fully well that the current challenges we face are only temporal.

He charged Nigerians not to give up on the Nigerian dream even in the face of the current challenges but to persevere for democracy to endure while government at all levels should initiate policies and programs that are in tandem with the wishes and aspirations of the people

"A nation on a transit of democracy for eighteen (18) years has not been devoid of challenges and set backs, we still have a lot of fault lines, young people are at a crossroad because of the cracks in our cooperate existence, were stronger than our fault lines and we will continue to live together in peace

"The essence of a democracy is the freedom not just to choose leaders but to aspire and dream more and we must live in peace and unity no matter our differences to pursue the Nigerian dream.

"In the words of our very own patriotic anthem which calls on all compatriots to heed the Nigerian call, to serve our fatherland with the principle of love, strength and faith, the love for our fatherland, strength in hard times like this and the faith that Nigeria will conquer all obstacles", he said.

Ishaq Asuku called on the Nigerian youth including to come together and build a better Nigeria, he noted that the youths need to covert all 'isms' in tribalism to Nationalism, terrorism to spiritualism, regionalism to Nationalism, secession to Unity, rebellion to obedience, hate tolove, inhumanity to humanity and hardship to prosperity.

"I congratulate Nigerians on this day and wish all Nigerians a happy Democracy day Celebration", Ishaq Said.
