Developing Story: Gunmen Storm FMC Lokoja, Cart Away Laptops, Phone
Gunmen have stormed the Federal Medical Centre lokoja carting away laptops and phones of staffers and patients.
The Gunmen in large numbers operated for about thirty minutes and left the scene with victims crying for help.
The level of insecurity in Kogi State might have taken a different dimension as unknown gunmen attacked Lokoja branch of Federal Medical Centre on Wednesday.
The gunmen attacked the hospital and shot sporadically with staff of the Federal Medical Centre running for their lives.
The gunmen who destroyed the entrance of the hospital with bullets also attacked some offices of the medical personnel and shattered it.
Laboratory equipment, Phones, laptops and other valuables were said to have been catered away by the unknown gunmen who chose to attack hospital with patients struggling to survive.
According to an eye witness, the said incident happened on Wednesday when the medical personnel of the Federal Medical Centre were about to hold press briefing on COVID-19.
The source disclosed that the press briefing was aimed at drawing the attention of the federal government to establish COVID-19 screening centre in Kogi State and speak on the several challenges facing the Lokoja FMC health workers in the face of coronavirus pandemic.
The gunmen were strategic in their attacks. After shooting sporadically, they immediately proceeded to the records and admin departments, they carted away with laptops, destroyed documents and shattered the office of the Medical Director of the hospital.
The attack on Lokoja FMC happened in the heart of Lokoja town, close to Kogi State Government House in Lokoja.
To prevent casualties, the Medical Director ordered the security officials attached to the hospital not to engage them with fire.
This happened barely one week after the Northern Governors Forum made Governor Yahaya Bello chairman of the forum in the fight against insecurity in the Northern region.
