There was tension in Amukpe community, in the Sapele area of Delta State, on Monday, when a youth, Akpobome Okokoyo, allegedly stabbed his friend, God’sTime Ikpakpa, to death during an argument over N12,000.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the two friends made the money from gambling and at the point of sharing, argument ensued, which led to fisticuffs.
The deceased, Ikpakpa, was reportedly stabbed twice with a broken bottle in the rib.
A witness told our correspondent that sympathisers rushed him to a private hospital, where he was rejected due to the severity of the injuries.
“God’sTime (Ikpakpa) was then rushed to the City Hospital at Okirigbaga, Sapele, where he died.
“As the news of his death filtered into town, an angry mob descended on Okokoyo and beat him to a pulp before he was rescued by the police,” the witness, who did not want to be identified, said.
It was also gathered that that deceased’s wife gave birth to a baby three days ago
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said the suspect was in custody.
