Exclusive: Kogi Govt In dilemma over LG Administrators

The extended tenure of Administrators of local government councils in Kogi state has expired and their fate is currently uncertain.
Gov. Yahaya Bello

Feelers from Lugard House suggests that the Yahaya Bello-led government is in a dilemma on what steps to take on local government administration in the state.
A source, who confided in Kogireports, said the governor is not keen on renewing the tenure of current local government administrators. This, the source said, is based on Governor Bello’s independent review of the activities of the administrators.
Kogireports gathered that Governor Bello is worried about their extravagant lifestyles. Some of the Administrators have built mulit-million edifices across the state within their short stay in office.
The state government is considering the option of conducting elections into the local government councils by there is palpable fear in Lugard House that the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) will be scrapped soon as the National Assembly has ruled that INEC should conduct local government elections.
Also, our source said a report on the Administrators made available to the state government revealed that many of the Administrators cannot win elections. He said the report revealed that many of them lack the mental and administrative capacities to lead their councils.
He told Kogireports that there is a growing pressure on the Governor to dissolve the Administrative committees and make popular decisions on them ahead of 2019 general elections.
The options available to the state government are few and dicey.
