Traditional Echane Festival Ban In Kogi Central
The age long traditional festival in Ebiraland, Echane festival has been banned indefinitely across Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The resolution was reached on Tuesday after an urgent security meeting held at the palace of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, HRM Dr Ado Ibrahim .
The meeting was attended by the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Abubakar Ohere, Local Government Administrators from Kogi Central, Ebira Cultural Heritage, Security Agencies among others.
They unanimously agreed that, an indefinite ban of the festival is the best option for the senatorial district in view of the current security challenge in the area.
According to a reliable source, the reason for banning the traditional festival cannot be unconnected with the crisis that always trail it whenever is being celebrated.
"Yesterday two people along side a masquerade were killed in Okene Local Government while celebrating the festival." the source added.
Speaking shortly after the meeting, the
Administrator of Okene Local government Hon. Abdulrazaq Muhammed expressed shock over the recent killings in Okene, describing it as disturbing and worrisome despite government heavy investment on security.
He thereafter assured the residents to go about their normal businesses as government and security agencies are on top of the situation.
However, he advised residents to be vigilante and obey governments directives as any one caught
flaunting the laid down orders will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
