OPINION: CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor, The Nigerian Police Officer The Government Must Reward For Upholding The Integrity of The Nation And That of The Institution of The Nigeria Police Force | By BY OGO'OGU MD
“The good we secure for ourselves is precarious and uncertain until it is secured for all of us and incorporated into our common life.” Jane Addams.
"While we have come a long way, we must go further if we are to ensure greater diversity and truly modern police forces that reflect the communities they serve and provide police officers able to tackle not only traditional crime but also the changing face of crime", so say Theresa May.
Ladies and gentlemen, the safety of a nation is determined by the policy of their government, and the strength of the government is determined by the integrity, skills, and transparency of individuals, group and the moral character of the institution that each personnel upholds while discharging their constitutional responsibilities.
My father told me, many years ago, that good governance will be a reality in the nation Nigeria when in our individual lives we can reject been bribed or bribe others, when we can condemn ourselves before the government or law, when we can simply uphold the moral value and the law of the land, when we can see the truth aligning ourselves with it and celebrate and honor men/women who denied themselves, and lay down their lives for the safety of their people, protecting the resource of the land and defending the nation.
Distinguish ladies and gentlemen of the federal republic of Nigeria, President Muhammad Buhari, The Arm Chief Security of the nation, the senate, state and national assembly across the federation, businessmen, and all Nigerians I have come to you with the gospel of truth, this gospel has the power to reform our security institution, it is a tool to produce more men and women who will work their heart void of compromise and corruption in the institution.
BRIEF ABOUT THE WRITER
My name is Omeiza Mark Dauda, aka OGO'OGU, a citizen of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, Kogi State, And Ebira Man by Tribe. He Obtained His BSc on Criminology and security study, a graduate from National Open University, 2015, a chartered on public management, a man whose passion for good governance cannot be watered down, radical opposition to corruption and the convener of the ministry of celebration.
It is no longer a news to many in the nation and across the nation that our security officers, especially the Nigeria Police are corrupt, walk in the street and ask two of more opinion you will agree with me that our mind is fed with such negative news. I do not disagree with that but I will also say The Nigeria Police is not totally conquered because of my recent research and findings.
My assignment is to present to us the need for rewarding and honor those who rejected and denied themselves from selling their integrity and name of the institution for a token that will perish with them within a while. We cannot have the best of our security personnel when they are not properly catered for. Those who live up to the standard and noticed should be rewarded and decorated accordingly, they should be honored and celebrated by the government to encourage transparency, hard work, integrity, and good leadership.
Permit me as I introduce our Integrity icon of 2019, CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor! (A Benin man) CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor is the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of D Division Itam, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. I stumbled on a short article which was written about him in a WhatsApp group and I began to ask for his contact. it took me 2week to get his contact. finally, a young vibrant man called Comr. Chris Osa who also share the same ideology with me swung into action and provided me with the phone number of CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor and I put a call to through.
Below is his testimony, he read and I quote:
"I have never taken a bribe in 29 years of active service. In the police force, D Division, bail is free and no policeman dares take a bribe from community members under my watch.
My officers have earned the trust of the community for their stand on integrity and this has gained the needed support and collaboration to fight local crimes. He is very involved in community projects and mentoring young people.
While on duty as the pipeline commander in Edo State, I refused bribes of 1.5 million nairas offered to me weekly from 4 individuals who were involved in illegal oil bunkering. In addition, I rejected 500,000 nairas per week...as returns from his subordinates, given to them as bribes to allow adulterated petroleum products to be brought into the state.
He said, rejecting these tempting offers earned him several enemies, especially considering that his 37,500 Naira monthly allowance was not steady. It was tough for me then that I almost fall for the temptation but thank God for His grace and strength to be able to resist and still stand strong.
He stated that his belief in integrity stemmed from the trust and respect he has earned from the community he served, which make his job easier. He advocates “standing for truth even when no one is on your side.” and he concluded, In the future, he hopes to actualize a Police Force that is the dream of the citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He made clear to me with names I don’t need mentioning right now that they have more people whose passion is to see a Nigeria Police force that works and free of corruption and bribery, but the only challenge is that they are few."
Ladies and gentlemen, I am a lover of integrity, I cherish men like this, we can rush to spread the bad side of selected few in the institution but refuse to sell and celebrate such a man like this. it is crystal clear not all police officer is bad and once we sighted the good one let us celebrate him or her. CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor, I am not yet in the position, I am still in the process, I am still under God's construction, so gold and silver I don't have, but I have chosen to celebrate your integrity, keep the good work, your integrity shall speak for you in Jesus name...amen.
Benjamin Franklin, read and I quote “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
Ladies and gentlemen, I am using this moment, to call on His Excellency, President Muhammed Buhari, National Assembly, the senate and His excellency Godwin Obasaki the executive Governor of Edo state to Invite CSP Francis to your office and reward him for his display of integrity of the nation. Also to put in place a reward policy for such men in national services much as we have EFCC to crack down on criminals. This reward should cut across NPF, Army and other security agencies in the nation to strengthen our security because we are losing weight gradually in the security world.
We cannot leave what is most important and focus on what is less important. I do not believe that all police officers are bad, nor do I believe that most are bad but there must be a transparent, impartial and fair system to judge those that engage in criminal or unethical acts in our security institution. Without reward for a good job done, they will not be encouraged to do more. Our government must in this time, change the welfare package of our security forces. We must honor, protect and support our police officers and their families every day of the year to encourage them to be true friends of the people.
I knew police officers have a very difficult job. They have to make split-second decisions that will impact not only the communities they serve but their families, their own personal lives. in a nation like Nigeria where terrorist and all manners of crime are been practiced, our security officers need a well robust welfare package to shift their fantasy from bribe and extortion. We must remember where there is no security, there can't be good governance, peace, and unity which are the heartbeat of democracy.
Nigerians, I want us to understand, our police officers put their lives in harms way for us every single day. They've got a tough job to do to maintain public safety and hold accountable those who break the law... and to get this job done effectively, they need our contribution, collaboration and making available information that can enhance and make their job easy for the benefit of us all and the nation at large.
People see police officers and think they're such bad people. We have some who can really be some bad people but we also have some great ones out there, that are around to protect us. They are out for the peace of the society, they are radical opinion against corruption and I am glad to present to you CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor...We celebrate you sir
My heroes are those who risk their lives every day to protect our world and make it a better place - police, firefighters and members of our armed forces. they go hungry every day defending the nation, leave their families and loved one defending the nation, they have sleepless nights all in the name of protecting us. yet little attention is been given to them.
To be a good police officer is one of the most difficult, dangerous, idealistic jobs in the world yet CSP Francis Osagie Erhabor is one.
Nigerians below is his phone number 08052318132, do to him what you are pleased. Let’s celebrate him and if God put it in your heart to reward him, kindly go ahead...his type is needed in the new Nigeria that is about to emerge....we celebrate you sir,
God Bless NPF
God Bless CSP Francis
God Bless Nigeria
