Salary: Protesting LG Workers Are Ignorant - Ohere
The Special Adviser to Kogi State government on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Abubakar Ohere has said the protesting local government workers across the State demanding for full salary payment are ignorant of the realities on ground.
Ohere said the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, (NFIU) policy does not give additional money to the account of the Local Government in the state as against claims in some quarters.
Ohere noted that since the NFIU does not know the staff strength of each local government areas in the states, there was no how the agency could have directed 100 per cent payment to all staff of the councils.
Describing the protests as politically-motivated, he assured that the Kogi State government would make the welfare of workers in the state civil service particularly workers in the Local Government areas of the state a priority.
A staff of one of the local government areas who wished to be anonymous disclosed that since the inception of Governor Yahaya Bello's administration, the salary of local government staff has been oscillating between 18percent to 20percent adding that the highest they had received was 30 percent while many of them are owed up to 30 months.
