Bailout Fund Meant For Outstanding Salaries Before 2016, Labour Union Warns Kogi Gov

The United Labour Congress of Nigeria (ULC), Kogi state council has warned Kogi state government against mis-managing the recently release N30.8 billion balance of bailout fund.

In a statement signed by the state Chairman, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo, ULC noted that the bailout fund is meant for payment of outstanding workers salaries and pensions as at 2016.

He berated the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for deceiving the general public that the bailout fund will be used to clear outstanding salaries and pensions owed by his government.

“The state government should not be celebrating that they have gotten money to pay people they are owing. That money is meant for the payment of outstanding salary, pensions and other entitlements of workers in the state and local governments as at 2015.

“Let Governor Yahaya Bello go and look for money to pay the people he is owing as a result of his endless screening exercise and the people his government deliberately owed.

“He should not use the bailout fund for payment of workers salary and pension from 2016 till date because that is not what it is meant for. The state government should stop deceiving the public,” he warned.

The Labour leader urged the state government to use the bailout fund judiciously to avert unfavourable reaction from workers.
