OPINION: The Deplorable Condition Of Roads In Kogi Central: Yes, We Will Fill Our Roads | By Hamza Yakubu

The importance of road in the socioeconomic life of a people cannot be overemphasized, this is a fact. Countless number of roads in kogi central are in a terrible state of disrepair. From one end of the district to another, it is the same story.

It is a known fact that, better roads will directly benefit business, commerce and the state overall economy. Every minutes that cars and trucks spend in traffic tempers the result of growth and production.

However, considering the tragic state of kogi central roads, one can easily submit that, the growth of this district is at the minimal line if critically analysed.

The pitiful state of our roads can best be describe as a national shame and embarrassment. This is because, most of the roads across kogi central, whether Trunk A roads, Trunk B roads, or Trunk C roads, which are Federal, State, or Local government roads respectively are in decadent state, and there is hardly any part of kogi central that can boast of decent motorable roads. Our roads have become a nightmare to motorists who ply them on daily basis.

The heavy downpour in recent time has exposed the pathetic conditions of the roads, and underlines the need to do something urgently. The experience navigating through kogi central roads has become more terrible as vehicle break down, heavy-duty trucks overturn or get stuck in the mud while motorists disembark at very terrible sections of the roads to push rickety and articulated vehicles thereby causing traffic gridlock on the roads.

Again, the increasing counts of accidents is also partly attributable to the poor state of the roads. This is another compelling reason. I agree that there are numerous other issues the government needs to address, but reliably, safe and effective transportation affects all of them.

We have long waited for Ministry of Power Works and housing, and the state government to do the needful, we have patiently waited for FERMA and KOGROMA to exercise there institution’s mandate, no action is forth coming. They have chosen to view and address the conditions of our roads with tinted eyes.

However, to change the narrative, the Checkpoint Concerned Youths Movement (CCYM) under the leadership of comrade HAMZA Yakubu has planned to initiate ‘Yes, we can fill our roads’ initiative. An initiative that will urge youths/residents of communities to team up and fill up the potholes in our roads so as to ameliorate the sufferings of the masses.

In this regard, all communities youths/residents should stand up and take responsibilities.
Yes, we can fill our roads!
