How Dino Melaye Led One Of The Dirtiest Fight In National Assembly

When you talk of physical confrontation that has been witnessed amongst the Nigerian lawmakers in National Assembly, you cannot exonerate former senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye from it.

In fact, Dino Melaye has arguably led the dirtiest fight witnessed in the National Assembly when he was serving as member House of representative, representing Kabba/Ijumu Federal Constituency on the platform Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007.

Young Dino who just won his first political office then needed something to launch himself to Nigerians and he chose to go controversial.

Dino Melaye who was the chairman Chairman of the House of Representative on information and National Orientation at the time supported the then embattled Speaker of House of Representatives, Patricia Olubunmi Foluke Etteh, who was accused of unlawfully spending N628 million in renovating official apartment and also biluying 12 official cars.

Dino went controversial and decided to support the embattled first female Speaker against the strong opposition in the House calling for her resignation.

It was tough but Dino needed to launch himself in a controversial way and he stood by the embattled speaker throughout the tough moments although Patricia Etteh eventually bowed to pressure and resigned as the Speaker of the House.

That was how Dino Melaye started his journey to fame in Nigeria politics.
Going into the tenure of Hon. Sabur Oladimeji Bankole who succeeded Patricia Etteh, Dino Melaye again went controversial and made himself a notable figure in the House after he led a group of 11 House of Representative Members who called themselves
"The Progressives".

Dino Melaye and his 11 "Progressives" members became a stiff opposition in the House and went against the Speaker, Dimeji Bankole.

In what will remain as one of the dirtiest fight in the floor of the National Assembly of Nigeria, in 2010 Dino Melaye led his 11
"Progressives" members and championed the fracas that led to physical confrontation amongst the lawmakers in the hallowed chamber.

The fracas led to physical confrontation in the House and the lawmakers engaged in free for all fight at the hallowed chamber.

Dino Melaye appeared to address press after being led out of the House in a torn clothes. At the end of the national embarrassment, the leadership of the House suspended the Dino Melaye, the leader of "The Progressives", alongside Solomon Awhinawhi,  Independence Ogunewe, Bitrus Kaze, Austin Nwachukwu and Doris Ubo because of the roles they played in the commotion at the House.

They were bungled out of the plenary where they were suspended when they tried to resist the move to suspend them from the House as a punishment for the roles they played in commotion at the House.
