Kogi Govt Dispels Covid-19 Outbreak In Kogi East

Kogi State government has spoken out on the recent claim on social media that there is an outbreak of COVID-19 in Ogugu, Olamaboro local government area of Kogi East senatorial district.

Speaking on the news making the round on social media, the State Squadron Committee on COVID-19 headed by the Deputy Governor, Edward Onoja dispelled the rumour and urged the general public to disregard the claim.

Edward Onoja who hails from Ogugu advised the general public to go about their normal business activities, adding that Kogi is yet to record a single case of COVID-19.

The rumour of a fresh outbreak of COVID-19 in Kogi State started when an indigene of the state, Realwan Okpanachi, on Friday claimed that himself, his wife and three year old daughter have been tested positive for COVID-19 after they attended a burial ceremony in Ogugu community.

Okpanachi added that they have seen been quarantined and currently in isolation centre, calling on Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to move to Ogugu and control the community transmission going on there.

However, the state Deputy Governor, Edward Onoja who hailed from Ogugu community, disclosed that findings have shown that Okpanachi has planted a false information intended to cause panic in the community.

“We are however curious as to how Mr. Realone Okpanachi was able to beat the interstate lockdown between Abuja and Kogi State to travel all the way from the epicenter of the virus into Ogugu", he said.

Onoja noted that as a citizen, it is an act of irresponsibility for Okpanachi to travel from Abuja to Kogi State, a violation of COVID-19 guidelines that prohibits interstate travels, insisting that Kogi State is yet to record a single case of the virus.
