Disclosing the reason for disqualifying Obaseki at the party's headquarters in Abuja, the chairman of the screening committee, Professor Johnathan Ayuba, said Obaseki was disqualified from contesting in June 22 APC primaries in Edo State based on discrepancies on his certificate he submitted to the committee.

He added that the School Certificate he presented to the committee was not in existence as at the time of the examination, adding that the NYSC Certificate presented by the Governor did not have his name written properly.

The Committee chairman explained that only three aspirants were cleared to contest the APC governorship Primary elections in Edo State.

Obaseki's disqualification has been linked to his long faceoff with the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The Governor has not released any official statement as at the time of filing this report to know the next line of action he will take.
