OPINION: My View | By Isah Bala

Whilst on the sofa reminiscing the variegated activities that have  impugned and lured our society to a lamentable state, I couldn't help but think of the desperate quest for power, wealth, fame and whatnot that have led many people into the vicious acts that dragged us to our present predicament.

I might not be totality correct in my submission but my opinion is not a different representation of what had played out in our world where the love for money, power, wealth and fame have taken the centre stage, the focal point of our pursuit and people are ready to kill and do anything possible to get to the top.

I've seen and read about people who toed the length and breath of their states, constituency and the likes, canvassing for what they termed "mission to set the people free from the grip of the greedy people in power", shedding tears to connect with the pains of the masses only to be the worst, raping the people of their rights without listening to their hoots and cries.

This is the world where we have many preachers of righteousness, humanity, forgiveness, empathy, and whatnot only to act contrary and be the worst in our closest.

I am strongly convinced that it's not what we write or speak for public consumption that matters in any issue, it's acting it out and leading by example in our daily routine even in our inner circle where we may not be seen, heard or praised but judged by our conscience.

What drives many people is actually fame, quest for power, influence and affluence and the promissory notes pasted on the street walls on many occasions are just bait.

As I read about the famous people of yesterday, the powerful and influential people of yesterday who climbed the apex ladder of their worldly pursuit but fell cheaply amidst their power, influence and wealth and life fizzled out of them, I asked, what's in this life we so much value and ready to do anything to get our whims and caprices done at all cost?

Unfortunately, the heart of man if not tamed will always lead one to worldly fortunes and fame regardless of how it's achived.

But then, this is my view and my humble submission which can only guides my worldly dealings and watch as others go on with their beliefs on mundane routines.
