The Kwara State Government has offered the 2019 best graduate of AlHikmah University, Ilorin, Fatimah Musa, automatic employment.
Musa, who was one of the 26 graduands that bagged First Class in the 2018/2019 session of the university was offered an automatic job by the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service.
Musa, a graduate of Economics, will resume work after the completion of her mandatory National Youth Service Corps scheme.
The registrar of the institution, Hajia Rasheedat Oladimeji, announced the KWIRS gesture during the 9th convocation of the faith-based university in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Apart from winning the automatic job and N50,000, Musa also won two other prizes as the best graduating student in the Department of Economics and KWIRS best graduating student in Economics.
No fewer than 896 graduands completed their degrees and diplomas in various disciplines while 26 bagged First Class degrees.
A further breakdown showed that of the 896 graduands, 824 completed First degrees, 59 have postgraduate degrees while 13 bagged diploma certificates at the convocation.
In his address at the event, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said his administration was working hard to deepen access to qualitative education that would make the Kwara child truly competitive in the 21st century knowledge economy.
“This administration is committed to expanding access to qualitative education, making education functional and dynamic so that the knowledge and skills acquired would transform entire society,” he said.
Represented by Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Moddibo-Kawu, the governor said his administration had taken some steps to improve the education sector.
The governor charged the graduands to try to be relevant in the global economy through relevant skills.
The governor said, “Let no one deceive you that a university degree is all that you need to succeed. I urge you to review the world as it is today and chart for yourself a path that leads to a greater future. I urge you to seek new skills that are required to survive what is now called the knowledge economy.
“I don’t want you to be a part of the graduates that are irrelevant to the 21st century economy. Also, I call on you to develop and imbibe the right attitude to duty wherever you find yourself.”
Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Taofeek Ibrahim, whose tenure ends in July 2020, expressed satisfaction over the growth the university had witnessed in both academic programmes and physical development in the last four years
