ISU 2019 Competitions: HFCC, ICSSS, Focus Academy Others Emerge Victorious
Holy Flock of Christ College, Ihima Community Science Secondary School, Sky Comprehensive College, Focus Academy, Bethel and Ruha Oyiza Nursery and Primary School have emerged champions of the 2019 Ihima Students' Union (ISU) Competitions, Confluence Reporters learnt.
The annual competition which took place on July 26, at the Multipurpose Hall of Ihima Community Science Secondary School was graced by community stakeholders, academicians and representative of the apex students' body in Ebira land, National Association of Ebira Students (NAES).
Holy Flock of Christ College Obeiba, defeated other six contenders to emerge the champion of the union's 2019 quiz competition, Ihima Community Science Secondary School emerged the runner up of the competition while Sky Comprehensive College Oboroke took third position.
On the spelling bee for children's category, Focus Academy Obeiba defeated other seven schools to emerge the champion of the union's 2019 spelling bee while Bethel Academy Ikuehi emerged the runner up with Ruha Oyiza Nursery and Primary School coming third in the kingly contested competition.
In his speech, the acting president of the union, Comrade Anawnureyi Abdulgafar said in any competition there must be a winner, charging the winners of the competition to see it as a means to do more and a challenge for the losers to bring out the hidden potentials in them.
Abdulgafar pointed out that the executives of the union had to embark on soliciting mission before they could raise fund to sponsor the programme, the reason he said the union could not include debate in the list of the 2019 competitions.
He thereafter advised the student students to see the award giving to them as a reward of their commitment to study in the face of societal discouragement rather than measuring its worth.
Speaking on the importance of education to societal growth, the Patron of the union, Hon. Jacob Anebe advised the students to be more committed to their studies and be a tool to societal growth and development rather than a tool of unrest and destruction.
Appreciating the performances of the students, NAES National Senate President, Comrade Fache Abubakar Taofiq disclosed that NAES will include the first prize winner of the quiz competition in the up coming NAES scholarship programme, adding that a set of text book will be delivered to their school library to aid the students learning.
On the same vein, the representatives of Ihima Liberation Forum, Comrade Abdulrahaman Ohize, Comrade
Sanusi Aliu, Comrade Mathew Samuel disclosed their association's commitment to promoting education in Ihima and pledged to pay the school fees of the first prize winner of the spelling bee as part of the ways to motivate the children that there is a reward for academic excellence.
