Benue Govt Lauds Buhari, Tasks Troops on Rule of Engagement

The Benue State Government has tasked troops on deployment in the state to abide by their rules of engagement to dislodge herdsmen militia in the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Makurdi on Friday, the state Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Lawrence Onoja (Jnr.), also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for responding to the calls for the upgrade of Exercise Ayem Akpatuma to Operation Whirl Stroke, which he said had helped to curtail the activities of herdsmen militia in the state.
Operation Whirl Stroke was in May 2018 deployed to Nasarawa, Taraba, Zamfara and Benue states to tackle the menace of herdsmen and local militia attacks.

He said, “We advise that the operation should continue in line with the orders of the Acting Director of Defense Information, Brig.-Gen. John Agim, to track, fish out and come down heavily on the camps of the militants and to shoot and kill any cow used as shield.”

He also reiterated the call for the arrest of the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and Fulani Nationality Movement which, he said, had openly claimed responsibility for the pogrom in Benue and other states in the country.
