Rahimah Brakes the Jinx, Wins Ihima Students' Union Weekly Quiz Competition
The weekly quiz competition of the oldest students' union in Ebiraland, Ihima Students' Union (ISU) witnessed another moment of euphoria on Friday as Musa Rahimah took members of the union by surprise to win the weekly edition of the union's quiz competition.
Rahimah, a100level student of department of Food Science and Technology, Kano State University of science and Technology Wudil, demonstrated her high IQ in the intellectual discourse when she defeated her closest rivals, Comrade Mutolib and two others to win the prestigious position and crowned the new champion of the union.
Speaking with Confluence Reporters, she said she is happy to be be crowned as the new champion of the union, adding that the programme is very helpful as it exposed students to the history of Ebiraland.
"I am very happy for being the champion yesterday, I use this opportunity to thank Ihima Students' Union and the entire excos and those who introduced this online quiz.
"It's really helpful because it is an enlightment to the student and we have achieved from it, so I will say this shouldn't stop, it should continue, God bless everyone", she said.
Speaking on the goal of the union, the National President of the union, Comrade Onivehu Musa Habeeb said Ihima Students' Union is an umbrella body for students of Ihima origin.
"The union was established in 1959 before any other students' union in Ebiraland.
"It is geared towards promoting education in the land, fighting for students rights and helping less privileged students to achieve their dreams.
"ISU online Weekly Quiz was introduced by the last administration of the union, it is centred on historical events in Ebiraland, winners are awarded airtime sufficient for weekly routine and we believe our students will be exposed to the rich history of Ebiraland through this.
"The programme is held every Friday on the union's Whatsapp group through which our members from different higher institutions of learning are able to participate", he said.
According to him, the union has other online educational programmes like 'Did You Know' which focused on the rich history of Ebiraland and 'Education talk' where topical issues are given to guest lecturers for discussion.
He explained that the union also has open educational programmes like Quiz and Debating Competitions for secondary schools, Spelling Bee for Primary Schools, and scholarship programme to help outstanding students and less privileged to realise their dreams, adding that these programme are held annually.
