AJAOKUTA/ITAKPE: Another Celebrated Media Jamboree | Hamza Lamisi
Simple courtesy demands congratulations for every good news, especially in Nigeria where less research is made on deserving information from perceived unquestionable high authorities. However we dare question the recent claims on Ajaokuta/Itakpe by the Honorable Minister of Solid Minerals, Hon. Kayode Fayemi.
Worthy of appreciation that no doubt, the Minister would have done a great job having the courage to make such flattering pronouncement without the real job done. Not to mention all his lackadaisical roles played so far against the ethics of administration. Taking the people for a ride. Of course, he is much aware that this is Nigeria. Toil with the people's interest for long, protect your interest and come out suddenly to give a good news, you would be celebrated in no small measure. So, congratulations to the Minister for all the applauds undeserving.
Now to the matter at hand. Taking the Minister by and through his words past, on the 4th of August 2016 in an interview session on the Channels' Sunrise Daily program, after the August 1st "taken back" announcement, Hon. Fayemi stated that Nigeria has not just taken back Ajaokuta but Ajaokuta has always belong to Nigeria. He went further to quickly contradict himself saying that they are trying to get the management of Ajaokuta fully back into the hands Nigeria. A simple rationale will prompt a question of "why struggling to gain full control of something that has always belong to you?" That aside, several crucial questions of clarifications asked by the presenter in respect to their prior interview with Barr. Natasha Akpoti were dogged by the Minister as usual.

Anyway we may redirect our focus on the current retaken back of Ajaokuta/Itakpe. That's if it did happened on paper as it happened on media. But we may ask, what happens to the reconcession agreement sigend between the Federal Government and the Global Infrastructure Nigeria Limited? Has it been terminated? If yes, why no address on it from the Minister? That should have been the leading story of the good news in a transparent environment. And if no, then Nigerians should prepare for another celebration of media propaganda. It is so unfortunate that in this part of the world, leaders don't address issues with the people but they only announce to score some cards while holding back the reality.
The good thing is you can decieve all the people at some times, some people all the time but not all the people all the time. We won't stop until the right thing is done in a transparent manner that will make Ajaokuta work for the people.
